Injury Treatment and Performance Enhancement

Whether you’re looking to restore function after an injury, get through your weekly pick-up game pain free, or finally get rid of that nagging pain that’s been holding you back for years, our team can help you reach your goals.

Chiropractic

The most common procedure performed by a chiropractor is known as “spinal or joint manipulation” also called a “chiropractic adjustment”. The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile, or restricted in their movement, as a result of tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as the improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as running with improper biomechanics. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation of the affected joints maximize range of motion, improves overall function of the area, and decreases pain.

Dr. Gregg uses a variety of techniques: Diversified, , Blocking/SOT, Flexion Distraction and low-force adjustments.

Soft Tissue Mobilization

The latest techniques in soft tissue mobilization. Myofascial Release as well as Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation are both utilized to treat soft tissue injuries. Soft tissue is everything other than bone. When dealing with musculoskeletal injuries, we are referring to muscle, tendon, ligaments, connective tissue known as fascia, and bursa.

Trigger Point Manual Therapy

A commonly used method to relieve pain and soft-tissue dysfunction is to manually compress and deactivate myofascial trigger points and adhesions. This technique is valuable in many cases. Trigger points, similar to adhesions, are local areas of muscle and fascia tightness and hypertonicity (increased muscle tone) that reduce range of motion, cause pain locally, and can refer pain and paresthesia (altered sensation) to other areas of the body. Dr. Gregg is trained at locating and releasing trigger points and adhesions. Often, chronic pain syndromes and many sports injuries can be solved through trigger point therapy and a home stretching and strengthening program, in conjunction with posture and ergonomic advice.

Rehabilitation

We incorporate a corrective exercises and rehabilitation component into every treatment plan, ensuring that our patients are becoming stronger with every visit.  Chiropractic care and rehabilitative exercises work hand in hand, as they both have the same goal of helping improve the patients quality of life.  We prescribe a series of specific movements for each patient designed to facilitate the healing process. Many musculoskeletal injuries are due to the overuse of certain muscles, tendons and joints.  These exercises help to decrease pain, restore muscular balance, improve proprioception, core strength, flexibility and stability to prevent future injuries. These programs teach the patient how to prevent the pain from reoccurring so that they do not have to frequently return to the therapist.

Dry Needling

Trigger point dry needling is an effective therapy for treatment of both chronic and acute myofascial injuries.  Dry needling involves the use of a thin filament needle being inserted into the muscle to help stimulate the healing process of any damaged or inflamed tissued that are commonly associated with musculoskeletal injuries. Dry needling can help to decrease muscular tension and spasm, which tend to occur with a variety of trauma or tissue degeneration throughout the body. It does not involve the use of any injectable materials into the body, hence the name ‘dry-needling.’  Dry needling allows us to penetrate the deeper tissues of the body compared to traditional soft tissue therapies.

Shockwave (EPAT) Therapy

Shockwave therapy, also known as EPAT Therapy, is a very innovative approach to treating chronic muscle and tendon injuries.  It is a cost effective way to help relieve pain and heal tendons, ligaments and muscle tears without injections or surgery.

Using compressed air to generate an acoustic pressure wave within a handheld transmitter, EPAT delivers an impulse that penetrates deep within the tissues to destroy scar tissue and restore elasticity and strength. We often integrate EPAT with other soft tissue care and rehabilitation exercises, saving you the hassle of visiting several different doctors.

EPAT Therapy can successfully address acute and chronic pain for a wide range of treatable conditions such as:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Hamstring tendinopathy
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Tennis elbow
  • Frozen shoulder
  • IT Band syndrome
  • Post-surgical scarring from hip and knee replacements
  • Post-surgical scarring from spine surgeries

Laser

Laser Therapy uses red and infrared light for the relief of pain, to accelerate healing and decrease inflammation. When the light source is placed against the skin, the photons penetrate several centimeters and get absorbed by the mitochondria, the energy producing part of a cell. This energy fuels many positive physiological responses resulting in the restoration of normal cell morphology and function. Both acute and chronic injuries respond well to laser therapy treatment.  Inflammation and swelling are quickly reduced to allow a greater range of motion in the affected area. Injured tissues are restored to optimal strength and vitality, providing greater functionality and preventing re-injury.

Sports Performance Enhancement

Whether you are a casual exerciser or committed athlete you can improve your performance with a simple evaluation and regular treatment. We help athletes accomplish their sports performance goals, maximize their potential, and reduce their risk of injury with evidence-based chiropractic, soft tissue mobilization, strength and mobility exercises, supplemental, and patient education and self treatment strategies to eliminate symptoms, restore full function, and enhance performance.

After going over your goals, possible problems, and current exercise and training level, we will provide instruction in pain and injury reduction strategies, as well as recommendations on how to make the most of your training and performance.

We provide a thorough musculoskeletal functional evaluation which includes strength, flexibility, range of motion and other physical conditioning areas. A thorough musculoskeletal assessment is essential to determine your condition and to identify areas of strength and weakness, including flexibility, strength, range of motion, and stability. Afterwards you will be provided recommendations based on your needs. Keeping muscles and joints flexible and restriction free while also picking up on areas before injuries happen is an invaluable service to keep you active.

Titelist Performance Institute (TPI)

Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) is the world’s leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to the golf swing. TPI was created to work with the top professional golfers in the world as well as the average golfer.  Their certification gives medical professionals golf-specific injury assessment and rehabilitation techniques to improve their performance or get them back in the game.

TPI focuses on specific functions related to the golf swing, power, mobility, flexibility and fitness. A simple screen done in our office can diagnose biomechanical faults you may have as well as your strengths. A plan and workouts will be created specifically for you.  Our office also coordinates with local golf coaches and professionals to effectively educate you on the issue to successfully improve your golf game.
